Tim Boyle eventually replaces Zach Wilson on the Jets bench.

The New York Jets have made a long-awaited decision to bench their starting quarterback, Zach Wilson, after a tumultuous season filled with injuries, disappointments, and losses. In his place, the team will turn to backup Tim Boyle for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has struggled in his rookie campaign, throwing more interceptions (11) than touchdowns (9) and posting a passer rating of just 72.3. The Jets have been patient with Wilson, but the team's poor performance and Wilson's inconsistencies have left them with little choice.

Boyle, a 28-year-old quarterback who spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Jets this year, has yet to make his NFL debut. However, he has shown promise in preseason games and practices, earning praise from his coaches and teammates.

The Jets are hoping that a change at quarterback will spark some life into their offense and give them a chance to compete in what has been a lost season. As for Wilson, it's unclear what the future holds for him. The Jets have expressed their belief in his talent and potential, but they will need to see significant improvement from him if he wants to remain the team's starting quarterback moving forward.

The decision to bench Wilson is not one that the Jets have taken lightly. Head coach Robert Saleh has been vocal about his support for Wilson, but the team's poor performance and Wilson's inconsistencies have left them with little choice. In fact, Saleh himself admitted that the decision to bench Wilson was a "difficult one" in a press conference this week.

Boyle's strengths lie in his accuracy and decision-making, which have been highlighted in his time with the Jets. In a recent interview, Saleh spoke highly of Boyle's preparation and work ethic, saying that he has "earned the right" to start.

Of course, there are no guarantees when it comes to quarterback play, and Boyle will face a tough test against the Bears' defense. But the Jets are hoping that a change at quarterback will provide some much-needed excitement and optimism for the future. After all, as Saleh likes to say, "it's always darkest before the dawn." Let's hope that dawn is coming soon for the Jets and their fans.

As for the fans, it's been a frustrating year to say the least. But hopefully, this change at quarterback will provide some much-needed enthusiasm and optimism for the future. The Jets will continue to focus on developing their young players and building for the future, with a new head coach, general manager, and quarterback likely on the horizon. Let's hope that they can put this season behind them and start fresh in 2022.
