Although stomach cancer is "debilitating," Toby Keith is optimistic about the future.

The 61-year-old country music legend recently provided fans with a health update, saying, "As long as everything continues hunky-dory, we'll look at something good in the future."

Toby Keith is reassuring his audience that he fully intends to be back in "fighting shape" and possibly resume touring.

The 61-year-old country music icon provided a health update regarding his condition during a recent interview with "CMT Hot 20 Countdown." He previously stated in June that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021 and had been undergoing treatment for many months.

In a video clip from the interview, Keith said that he was feeling upbeat about the future despite the challenges of his diagnosis and treatment.

"I'm considering returning to fighting form. I want some time to just relax and recover," the "Red Solo Cup "vocalist said.

"Having to go through all that is really crippling, but as long as everything continues to go according to plan, then we'll look at something wonderful in the future," he continued.

In a post on social media in June, Keith first informed his followers that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The singer tweeted at the time, "I was diagnosed with stomach cancer last fall." "Over the past six months, I've undergone surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Good news thus far, I require some time to rest, heal, and breathe.

"I am looking forward to having my family here for this period. But I'll definitely run into the fans shortly. I'm impatient," he continued.

Gastric cancer, also known as stomach cancer, occurs when "cells in the stomach start to grow out of control," according to the American Cancer Society.

Keith received a BMI Icon Award at the BMI Country Awards in Nashville last month. According to the Taste of Country website, the artist performed at the ceremony and made a 12-minute acceptance speech.

Keith captioned photos of the event on Instagram with the phrase "Feelin' the love." "I was honoured to accept Tuesday night's Icon Award from @BMI. Thank you BMI for everything you've done over the years. Also grateful for the fierce tributes from @carrieunderwood, @ericchurchmusic, @deandillonmusic, and @scottyemerick.
